With an annual production of around 2.3 million tonnes and a value of € 4.5 billion, the margarine sector contributes to providing nutritious and sustainable options for consumers and to supporting Europe’s economic growth.
Exports reach nearly 400.000 tonnes per year with a value of € 0.9 billion, showing the importance of European margarine in global markets.
IMACE members at the core
IMACE members represent more than 75% of the total EU production, making the association a strong and united voice for the sector. This scale allows us to support innovation, set high standards, and strengthen the competitiveness of plant-based spreads across Europe.
Supporting people and communities
The sector employs more than 8,000 people across the EU, underscoring its importance as a stable source of jobs in food production.
More than 80% of the companies are SMEs, showing that margarine is not only driven by large groups but also by a dynamic community of small and medium-sized enterprises that contribute to local economies and entrepreneurship.
