Role and mission
The European Margarine Association (IMACE), founded in 1958 and headquartered in Brussels, represents the collective interests of Europe’s margarine industry.

Our work is centred on five key policy areas that shape the future of margarines and spreads: Food safety, Nutrition, Sustainability, Consumer Information and Competitiveness.
At the heart of our mission is the promotion of margarine’s positive contribution to health, food innovation, and environmental sustainability. Guided by robust science, reliable data, and transparent communication, we work to strengthen trust in margarine and secure a thriving future for the sector in Europe.
We pursue our mission through four key objectives:
Ensuring transparency, sustainability, and social responsibility across production, marketing, and consumption of margarine and related products.
Prioritizing consumer health and safety, environmental stewardship, and fair-trade practices through close collaboration with stakeholders, regulatory bodies, consumers, and supply chain partners.
Enhancing awareness of margarine’s role in a balanced diet through research, education, and science-based information.
Advocating for a fair and supportive regulatory environment that enables the sector to grow and thrive.
