#WorldHealthDay focuses on maternal and newborn health 👩🍼👶.
For a healthy pregnancy and lactation, it is important to have an adequate intake of fat of 35 E% (i.e. total energy) ⚖️🍽️.
For infants between 6 and 11 months of age, the proportion of total fat should be kept between 30 and 45 E% 🍼, and between 30 and 35 E% in infants between 12 and 23 months of age 👶📈.
An adequate amount of fat is an essential part of a healthy, balanced diet 🥗💪. Fat is a source of essential fatty acids, which the body cannot make itself 🧬. Fat helps the body absorb vitamin A, vitamin D and vitamin E. These vitamins are fat-soluble, which means they can only be absorbed with the help of fats 💧➕🍳.
Unsaturated fats are healthier fats and include vegetable, rapeseed, olive and sunflower oils 🌻🥑🫒.
Margarine is a great source of unsaturated fatty acids from plant sources 🌱 that can play a crucial role to a healthy pregnancy and lactation 🤰🌼.
