The recently updated, WHO Healthy Diets Fact Sheet reiterates, once again, that saturated fat intake should not exceed 10% of total energy intake. WHO affirms that the quality of dietary fat is important. Unsaturated fat is preferable to saturated fat and trans-fat (TFA) of all kinds, including both industrial trans-fat and ruminant trans-fat (found in meat and dairy foods from ruminant animals).

Margarine producers have eliminated the industrially TFA* since many years, making it a healthy fat alternative both low in saturated fat and virtually free of trans fat, as per WHOโs recommendations.*Regulation (EU) 2019/649 โ amending Annex III to Regulation (EC) No 1925/2006 as regards trans fats, other than trans-fat originally occurring in fat of animal origin.
