Statistical information

 

    • In 2008, according to the information of IMACE Member Associations, the total of margarine and fat spreads production in the EU amounted to 1.803.454 MT. The five biggest producing countries are Germany (365.154 MT), the Netherlands (295208 MT), Belgium (288699 MT), United Kingdom (268315MT) and Poland (140.762 MT),
    • Other big margarine producing countries in the world are the United States (631.100 MT), Brazil (503.000 MT), Turkey (243796MT) and Japan (239455 MT).
    • By way of comparison, total production in 2008 (EU 27) of butter and dairy spreads amounted to 2.090.000 MT.
    • In 2008, Germany exported 62.537 MT (257.296 MT in 1997), Belgium exported 196.664 MT (233.678 MT in 1997) and Dutch exports amounted to 154.372 MT (198.820 in 1997). Exports for Finland dropped from 20.900 MT in 2003 to 13350 MT in 2008.
    • According to IMACE information, the per capita consumption of margarine and fat spreads in the EU is 4,33 kg, down from 5,02 kg in 2005, 5,82 kg in 2000.
