Statistical information
- In 2003, according to the information of IMACE
Member Associations, the total of margarine and fat spreads production
in the EU amounted to 2.480.363 MT. The five biggest producing
countries are Germany (481.121 MT), United Kingdom (409.200 MT),
Poland (296.058 MT), the Netherlands (289.317 MT) and Belgium
(267.701 MT).
- Other big margarine producing countries in
the world are the United States (990.000 MT), Brazil (485.900
MT), Turkey (276.989 MT) and Japan (247.576 MT).
- By way of comparison , total production in
1999 of butter and dairy spreads amounted to 1.691.900 MT.
- In 2003, Germany exported 38.480 MT (257.296
MT in 1997), Belgium exported 181.314 MT (233.678 MT in 1997 )
and Dutch exports amounted to 172.400 MT (198.820 in 1997). Exports
for Finland dropped from 58.000 MT in 1997 to 20.900 MT in
2001, while Sweden exported only 20.949 MT, down from 121.000
MT in 1997.
- According to IMACE information, the per
capita consumption of margarine and fat spreads in the EU is 5,02
kg, down from 5,18 kg in 1999, 5,45 kg in 1998, 6,16 kg in 1993.
